Potsdam is the capital of Federal State Brandenburg with a huge history. In modern times Potsdam is a city of science with Potsdam University and some research institutes. Due to the film-park Potsdam-Babelsberg with historical roots until 1912 Potsdam became a centre of cinematography.
Every year the city of Potsdam welcomes lots of tourists to discover a charming architectonic melange of the last four hundred years.

Frederick II., better known as Frederick the Great, was born in 1712. Under his leadership the former poor Prussia became a European Great Power. He was trying to install an enlightened absolutism and called himself first servant of the state, the people calls him Old Fritz. 1786 he died in Potsdam.
